Known for its great outdoors whether that be hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and an abundance of skiing excursions within reach. The town draws in weekend visitors from larger city centres as people are choosing small towns for joining in with seasonal attractions like car shows, festivals and other small events.

Nearby, Fort Steele was the original town site for the city, and has been preserved in its 1880 vintage state as a popular area attraction.

Cranbrook Area Water Treatment

Cranbrook's water has been creek fed by reservoirs for many years and with its continual expansion has joined the ranks of other towns in its need to keep up with the demands of fast growth. Philips reservoir can barely keep up with the demand during normal years and the drier periods have pushed the city to supplement the water supply with the various wells around the town.

The reservoir provides moderately hard water with organics, turbidity and bacteria, and the wells are very hard with some metals. The town's supply has a bit of history with Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

In addition to this mix in flux, the effects of this has had a few interesting results. The water in many areas of the town can change daily. We recently installed a water softener in front of Cranbrook Regional Hospital's boiler system as the fluctuating chemistry was causing havoc in the boiler and making it difficult and expensive to maintain the balance of the boiler chemicals.

Country water on one's own acreage can vary quite a bit throughout the district. From soft water with high iron to 100+ gpg of hardness and an unlimited combination in-between. Most wells are the deep drilled steel pipe type with some shallow wells and a few open water sources.
