Water Filters & The Supply Chain

When it comes to filters and the supply chain, there are things we know for certain and there are things that remain as unknowns. And there are things you can do to protect yourself.

We know a lot of the worlds polypropylene that is normally used in filters such as the ones commonly referred to as polyspun or blown melt is being diverted to make medical or high-quality masks. We know that many factories that normally make these types of filters are not yet running at capacity. We also know that several of the largest filter companies in north America have had production delays in Chinese factories trying to fill those containers destined for North America.

This has already created shortages in some of these common filters with distributors scrambling to fill their warehouses with any available stock they can find. The shortages are already here.

Polypropylene the commodity, like the stock market has been a roller coaster for this material. The year of the covid began with shortages and high demand followed by over stock and low demand. It is currently heading back to higher prices and higher demand with questionable or spotty production. While we have only seen nominal increases on the prices of these filter types, (5% to 10%), we have no confirmation from suppliers that this won’t change soon without notice.

The simple solution here is to estimate your annual filter needs and buy at least one extra set of filters. And if you’re like me and think that this corona mess is going to take a couple years to sort out then make that two extra sets.

We know the prices are never going down. How do we know this? They have only ever gone up in price in the past and there is absolutely nothing to suggest this will change.

More than enough things are going on in our world to sugest higher prices are going to be the norm. I could be wrong of course but you have nothing to lose and you could easily save money and the hassle of scrambling for filters when you need them.

Filters for sale right here, now.
