Katalox Lite Advantages

Katalox is a very effective chemical free way to treat water with ferrous iron, ferric iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide. It is also a good particulate filter, and can work in a wide range of pH conditions. This light weight media is similar to birm and requires less water to back wash than other oxide medias.

Is this system & method right for you?

There are a few things you need to consider before selecting this method of removal.

Is the pH of your water from 5.8 to 10.5? If the pH of your water is lower than 6.5, or higher than 9.0 its best to write or call to discuss a few ways of improving your removal conditions. Don't know your pH... you need a water test before ordering a system!

Recomended Removal Limits: Total Iron limit is 7ppm, Manganese 2.0ppm, Hydrogen Sulphide 2.0ppm, visit the Katalox spec sheet to see more of its removal capabilities.

What is the intended maximum flow rate in your home? This is important for two reasons, one we need to match the maximum flow rate of your home with the maximum service flow rate of your system, and two, the system requires a certain amount of water to clean its media bed properly...

Katalox Lite media has a max recommended flow rate in specific diamter tank systems. So a 0.50cuft system peaks at 4gpm system, a 0.75cuft system at 5.5gpm system, 1.0cuft at 6.5gpm, 1.5cuft at 9.5gpm, and a 2.0cuft at 11gpm.

*You can flow these systems at slighlty higher or lower fow rates than the recommended or optiomal rates. What changes is the removal capabilities, better removal will occur at recommended or optimal flow rates. For example, an ideal service flow rate for maximum removal would be, 0.5cuft = 3.0gpm, 0.75cuft = 3.5gpm, 1.0cuft = 4.5gpm, 1.5cuft = 6.5gpm, 2.0cuft = 7.5gpm.

Don't know your flow rate... Fixture counts and the number of people is a practical way when you have the endless water supply, well-pumping systems often are the limiting factor so a bucket test using a hose from your manifold or tank tee will work great.

Backwashing requirements are important, water temperature is also important. Your water supply will need to be able to meet the backwashing requirments of the specific model. Cold water reduces the minimum flow rate needed to clean the katalox media bed, warmer water increases the minimum flow rate needed.
