Thanks, I ordered two O rings yesterday. I appreciate your knowledge of this, as everyone else just recommended a generic O ring. Much appreciated.

AquaSulis pH correction made simple

Enhance the alkalinity of your household water with the AquaSulis pH Plus Upflow Alkaline Filter. Experience whole-house or pre-treatment correction to low pH water. This system will protect downstream piping, fittings and appliances by neutralizing the corrosive effects of acidic water.

Built to last

The AquaSulis pH Plus Upflow Alkaline Filter is crafted with carefully chosen components to deliver exceptional performance. Designed for easy installation and long-lasting use, this system ensures your water is consistently alkaline and beneficial for all of your household needs.

The filtration in this system is accomplished by a bed of high-quality Calcite Media. These medias are specifically designed to raise the pH of your water, making it more alkaline.

You can choose from several connection fittings sets to match your plumbing to make for an easy installation. Unlike other systems, this valve head is non-electric and does not require backwashing. Installation only requires an in and out connection, as it comes with a built-in bypass valve. It is recommended to remove sediment before this filter.

Maintenance

The media in this filter is a depleting media, so there is no set lifespan. It is dependent on your water conditions, especially your water's pH and the amount of water used. For most families, you will need to add some media once a year. This can be done easily by opening the fill port with your Clack wrench and simply adding more media as needed. Testing the pH with a meter or test strips is the best way to determine if you need to add more media. This system also offers benefits such as stopping corrosion in piping and fixtures and serving as a pre-treatment for iron removal.

Let's Talk pH

Water with a pH below a neutral 7 is considered acidic and can corrode pipes, fittings, and appliances, potentially causing leaks and failures. Acidic water can also leach harmful metals like lead from old plumbing, posing health risks. Iron and manganese removal from water is difficult without pH correction. Surface water sources, such as lakes, creeks, rivers, rainwater, and shallow wells, often have an acidic pH due to carbonic acid formed from surface water interacting with carbon dioxide.

To protect plumbing and appliances from acidic water, it's important to raise the pH to a minimum of 7 and sometimes higher. This adjustment will also enhance the performance of metal reduction water treatment systems, like iron & manganese filters. The simple way to neutralize acidic water is by using a filter with calcite, a mineral high in calcium carbonate. Calcite is cost-effective and self-limiting, ensuring it only adjusts the pH to a neutral, non-corrosive level. As water flows through the neutralizer, the calcite dissolves, adding beneficial calcium and magnesium ions that neutralize acidity.

This process can increase water hardness, so a water softener may be recommended if the water was already hard and now exceeds 7gpg (grains per gallon). Typically, hardness increases by 3-5 grains per gallon, but since most acidic water is naturally soft, many people find they do not need a water softener after installing our system.

For water with a natural pH below 6.0, we recommend our Calcite & Corosex (magnesium oxide) blend. Corosex acts fast and can handle larger pH corrections, especially at higher flow rates. However, it is not self-limiting and may over-correct, resulting in high pH levels at low flow rates. The best way to start is with our 10% Corosex and 90% Calcite blend. From there, you can measure your pH and add more Corosex, adjusting the ratio as needed, to reach your desired pH level. It is not recommended to exceed 50% Corosex as it may over-correct and cement the media bed. If your pH is <6 call or write to discuss a blended media for you or see our other listings.

Installation Notes

We always recommend removing sediment before the system. Ask us about a suitable pre-filter to match your incoming water conditions. If your feed water to this system is already considered hard, our technicians can review your water test report before purchasing.
