This media can filter out particles as small as 3 microns in cold water, with an average removal level of 5 microns. As a non-toxic, non-reactive mineral, NextSand does not alter the water's pH or support bacterial growth. It is largely unaffected by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and is ideal for surface water and open water sources such as rivers, creeks, and lakes. Additionally, it can be used downstream of chlorination or air injection systems to remove oxidized iron particulates. NextSand is versatile, cost-effective, and long-lasting.

The filtration in this system is accomplished by a bed of NextSand media. This media is specifically produced to remove particulate and sediment of all types.

Clack has made some of the biggest advancements in filtration in the last 20 years in terms of rugged reliable equiptment. These made in North America systems are dependable, efficent and longlasting.

Maintenance

The media in this filter is long lasting. This is dependent on your water conditions and amount if water through the system. For most applications you will need to replace the media every 7 to 10 years. This can be done easily by removing the valve head and either shop vacuming it out or washing it out and adding more media.

Backwash intervals are something that can be fine tuned to your water and usage. NextSand is a unique filter media that can have it's maximum removal by finding it's sweet spot, niether too clean or too dirty. Often systems start with a schedual of every fours days and then adjust up or down from there.

The right system & the right size:

There are a few things to consider when selecting your systems size.

Family size (how many people are in your home), home size (number of bathrooms & kitchens), specialty water use appliances like side spraying showers, peak service flow rate, and water chemistry are all important factors in sizing your new whole home carbon system.

Considerations:

Flowing lower than the recommended rates can increase the removal rate including particles down to 3microns, you can also flow at higher rates then what is recomended though your removal size will go up.

Temperature and NextSand, colder water needs less water in gpm to backwash the media. For example, comparing 5C to 21C water, the difference would be 1.5x increase in water need to backwash at 21C

Don't know your flow rate... Fixture counts and the number of people is a practical way when you have the endless water supply, well-pumping systems often are the limiting factor and if youre not sure a simple bucket test using a short garden hose from your tank tee/manifold, outside tap or yard hydrant will work great.

Additional Options:

Clack has made some really great additional options for this valve, including, a verticle by-pass adapter which allows you to shorten the installation room needed and position the by-pass valve either pointing up or down.
