Sulfate Reducing Bacteria Test

Testing for the presence of this bacteria is the first step in the treatment process.

Sulfate Reducing Bacteria causes issues such as sulfurous odors, slime, and staining. Much of the hydrogen sulfide will react with metal ions in the water to produce metal sulfides. These metal sulfides, such as ferrous sulfide, are insoluble and often black or brown, leading to the dark-colored deposits.

Sampling Instructions
1.    Complete the Sample Chain of Custody form.
2.    Use a felt pen to mark the bottle with your name and sampling date.  
3.    Fill the sample bottle to ≥ of the 100ml line with hot or cold water.
4.    Close the bottle tight and swirl gently for a few seconds to mix the sodium thiosulfate neutralizer.

Sample Transport
1.    Deliver or ship samples within 24 hours of sampling.
2.    Protect samples from light,  heat or extreme cold. Cold packs can be used frozen or warm, coolers or insulated containers can be helpful.
3.    Place completed Chain of Custody from the plastic bag the bottle arrived in.
