Wasa, BC, is a quaint little hamlet located in the East Kootenays. Known for its serene and picturesque mountain setting, Wasa is centered around Wasa Lake, which may be the warmest lake in the Rocky Mountains. This small community is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as swimming, boating, hunting and fishing. Our favourite is when the lake freezes over making it one of the best natural rinks in the area. The land is also rich in history, with its name originating from a Finnish settler who named it after his native town of Vasa in Finland.

Wasa Area Water

For water resources, Wasa and its surrounding areas are well-known for their pristine lakes and rivers. The Kootenay River, which flows nearby, provides a vital water source for both residents and wildlife. The river itself is also the main source of shallow wells in a large portion of this area and directly feed many ranches along its shores. Deep wells make up the balance of the water sources here. The extended areas near Wasa, including spots like Fort Steele, Wildhorse, Skookumchuck, Ta Ta Creek, and Lazy Lake, offer a laid-back living lifestyle for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
